When we are out and about, in a restaurant or a park, our glasses get dust and grease on them. So we grab a handkerchief from the table or just use our clothes to wipe the lenses.

Lens cloths are softer and more delicate than other fabrics, but they can also get dusty. Lenses also get dusty during wear. This is difficult to see with the naked eye. When we wipe dry lenses with a lens cloth, the dust can damage the coating on the lenses through friction.
