Have you ever heard of "Dopamine Dressing"? This colorful style craze lit up the summer of 2023 and continues to this day. You may have heard of it or even tried it, but did you know that Dopamine Dressing can also prevent myopia? To find out how, read on!

What is dopamine?

Dopamine is a chemical in our body that is used to transmit messages between various nerves in the brain, and is known as the "happy chemical" and "love messenger. In our eyes, dopamine is closely linked to light perception, retinal cell growth and other physiological activities. The presence of dopamine allows us to maintain clear vision.
Studies have shown that a lack of dopamine can lead to nearsightedness due to multiple eye growth. When the body lacks dopamine, the eyes' ability to adapt to changes in light is weakened and our eyes become more susceptible to damage from the external environment. Therefore, promoting the production of dopamine in the eyes can help keep our eyes healthy.

How to promote dopamine production?

1. Outdoor activities are essential. When we are outdoors, bright sunlight stimulates dopamine production. At the same time, the open natural environment reduces eye strain and allows the eyes to relax naturally. Doctors recommend at least two hours a day and no less than ten hours a week in the sun. However, try to avoid being in the sun between 10am and 2pm in the summer, as excessive UV rays can damage your eyes. You can opt for a pair of sunglasses to enjoy the sun and protect your eyes at the same time.

2. Consumption of L-tyrosine-rich foods. L-tyrosine is necessary for the synthesis of dopamine. Apples, avocados, bananas, beans, chocolate, green leafy vegetables, nuts, oats, olive oil, and many other foods contain L-tyrosine. In addition, vitamins, minerals, and fats such as vitamins B6, B9, B12, vitamin D, magnesium, iron, and fish oil are needed to synthesize dopamine. However, be aware that excess fat and sugar can inhibit dopamine production instead.

3. Get enough sleep. Recent studies have shown that lack of sleep leads to a reduction in dopamine receptors, so make sure you get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. You may be able to use block blue light glasses to reduce the damage caused by using electronic screens before bed.

4. The Dopamine dress. Fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen first coined the term "dopamine dressing" in her book "Dress Your Best Life," referring to the way clothing stimulates the body to release large amounts of dopamine, which makes people feel happy, and the clash of vibrant colors that can counteract bad moods.
